Peer Review Process

Peer Review Process

Media of Law and Sharia (MLS) uses a “double-blind” system (the identity of the reviewer and author is hidden/anonymous) in the review process. An external reviewer will review the manuscript. The editor of the journal is usually also involved in reviewing the manuscript.

The review process considers the relevance and contribution of articles to legal theory and practice. Editors and reviewers provide constructive input on the evaluation results to the authors.

The article review process usually takes 4 to 12 weeks, depending on the duration of the editor and reviewer reviewing the manuscript. If the old author does not get confirmation from the editor, the author can confirm via e-mail at mls@umy.ac.id

The reviewing process is as follows:

  1. Manuscript submissions are processed online through OJS MLS, website: http://journal.umy.ac.id/index.php/mlsj
  2. Incoming manuscripts will be checked for suitability of author guidelines, templates, plagiarism, focus and scope of MLS by the editor-in-chief. If appropriate, the process continues with the appointment of the relevant Editor. However, if it is not appropriate, the editor-in-chief will recommend the manuscript to be revised and/or rejected.
  3. The plagiarism must be checked using Turnitin. If the degree of similarity is more than 25%, the manuscript will be requested to be corrected or rejected by the MLS Editor. This decision is final and the prerogative right of the MLS editors. Click for Plagiarism Policy.
  4. Manuscripts will be sent to at least 1 (one) reviewer. If peer-review is required for further consideration, a 2nd or even 3rd reviewer will be appointed.
  5. The next reviewer will send a review note to the editor, and it will be forwarded to the author. Accepted manuscripts that require revision (minor or major) will contain comments from reviewers and will be returned to the author for revision. The task of the reviewer is only to provide suggestions on whether the manuscript is accepted or rejected. At the same time, the final decision regarding the acceptance or rejection of the manuscript is in the hands of the editor and editor-in-chief.
  6. Authors are given time to revise the manuscript no later than one month. Additional time to revise must be asked to the editor via e-mail at mls@umy.ac.id or via WhatsApp to Mr. King Faisal Sulaiman (+62 821 3547 5627).
  7. Manuscripts that have passed the final revision and are accepted by the editor will be published in MLS after being determined by the editor-in-chief.

Notes for Decision:

  1. Accepted as is.
  2. Accepted with minor revision (publication is desired, but a limited number of changes are still required).
  3. Accepted with Major Revision (requires considerable rework before reconsideration).
  4. Rejected (generally for reasons beyond the scope and purpose, major technical description problems, lack of clarity of presentation).
